Adani Energy wins Rs 4,700 crore Satara transmission project in Maharashtra

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL) has emerged as the lowest bidder for an estimated Rs 4,700 crore transmission project in Maharashtra to facilitate the evacuation of up to 4,500 MW of renewable and pumped storage power. The project was awarded through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL).

The project, titled “Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4500 MW) – Part A”, will be implemented through Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Satara Power Transmission Ltd. and is scheduled for completion within 36 months.

Once implemented, the scheme will add 562 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s network. This will take the company’s cumulative transmission network to 29,739 ckm and 1,43,425 MVA.

Project scope

The project includes a new 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a double-circuit transmission line connecting Kolhapur and Satara, and augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station.

The transmission system is intended to support pumped storage projects in the Satara, Pune and Mumbai Metropolitan Region while strengthening the inter-regional transmission corridor between the Western and Southern grids.

The project follows the technical qualification of five bidders, including Resonia Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Dilip Buildcon Limited and Ceigall India Limited. 

PFCCL incorporated Satara Power Transmission Limited as a wholly owned subsidiary in July 2026 to implement the project. The Request for Proposal (RFP) documents were issued on May 1, 2026, and technical bids were opened on July 23, 2026.

Commenting on the award, Mr. Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd., stated that pumped storage projects are emerging as a critical enabler of India’s clean energy transition, providing the flexibility required to integrate large-scale renewable energy into the grid. He noted that the Satara transmission project would create a vital backbone for renewable energy evacuation and storage deployment, supporting India’s long-term decarbonisation goals.

With the award, AESL’s transmission order book has reached approximately Rs 85,000 crore.

The project will be implemented in two phases. Phase-I, covering 1,800 MW, is scheduled for completion by March 31, 2029. Phase-II will expand the evacuation capacity to 4,500 MW and is targeted for completion by December 31, 2029.
