SJVN’s Buxar thermal project Unit 2 achieves 660 MW full load
Unit 2 of SJVN Limited’s 1,320 MW Buxar Ultra Supercritical Thermal Power Project has achieved its full load of 660 MW, marking a key milestone in the development of the project at Chausa in Buxar district, Bihar.
The thermal power project comprises two units of 660 MW each and is being executed by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN.
The plant uses supercritical technology to improve efficiency and limit environmental impact. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually.
Under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Bihar will receive 85% of the electricity generated by the project.
The latest milestone follows the commercial operation of Unit 1 of the 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in November 2025. SJVN achieved commercial operation of the first 660 MW unit through SJVN Thermal Private Limited.
With Unit 2 now reaching its rated full load of 660 MW, both units of the 2×660 MW project have reached major operational milestones.
