Andhra Pradesh proposes 7,872 ckm network under Green Energy Corridor Phase-III
Andhra Pradesh has proposed 7,872 ckm of transmission lines and five 400 kV substations with a combined transformation capacity of 9,500 MVA under the proposed Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-III scheme to strengthen evacuation of renewable energy.
The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APTRANSCO) submitted the proposal to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on December 27, 2024, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The Minister was responding to a question from MPs Appalanaidu Kalisetti and Byreddy Shabari on transmission infrastructure planned under GEC Phase-III.
The proposed network is intended to evacuate electricity from renewable energy projects, including solar and pumped storage plants, and integrate the generation with the State grid.
Andhra Pradesh plans to integrate approximately 18 GW of green energy into the national grid under GEC Phase-III, comprising 11 GW of solar capacity and around 7 GW of pumped storage projects.
The proposed pooling stations will be located at Mudigubba, Talupula, Ramayapatnam, Porumamilla and Koppaka.
Approval pending
Andhra Pradesh is among several States that have submitted proposals for implementation under GEC Phase-III. However, the Centre clarified that the scheme has not yet been approved.
As a result, no funds have been sanctioned or allocated for the Andhra Pradesh proposal so far. The Ministry did not specify a timeline for approval or commencement of the proposed transmission works, stating that these would be determined after GEC Phase-III receives approval.
The transmission proposal comes as Andhra Pradesh works towards its broader target of generating 160 GW of green energy, requiring expansion of the State’s transmission system to accommodate additional renewable capacity and future electricity demand.
According to the CEA’s monthly progress reports for June 2026, Andhra Pradesh has set a transformation capacity addition target of 3,485 MVA for FY 2026-27. Of this, 1,190 MVA was achieved during the first quarter. Several large transmission projects for renewable energy integration are also under construction in the State.
