Lignite-to-power producer NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) plans to invest approximately Rs 500 billion to increase its renewable energy capacity from 1.43 GW to 10.11 GW. NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NLCIL, has been established to focus on renewable energy generation.

The company aims to achieve a 50% renewable energy (RE) share in its total planned capacity.

Currently, 2 GW of renewable energy projects are under implementation, with plans to further expand through competitive bidding and exploring emerging opportunities in the green energy sector. NLCIL targets increasing the renewable energy share in its portfolio to 50% by 2030 and 77% by 2047, with no new thermal power additions planned beyond 2030.
