NHPC signs PPA with NDMC for 800 MW Parbati-II project
NHPC Limited has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for the supply of electricity from its 800 MW Parbati Hydro Electric Project Stage-II in Himachal Pradesh. The agreement was signed in New Delhi on June 29, 2026, and provides for the supply of power for a period of 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (CoD) of the project.
The agreement was signed by the General Manager (Commercial), NHPC, and the Director, NDMC, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
Parbati Stage-II is part of the Parbati cascade scheme, which also includes Stage-I (750 MW) and Stage-III (501 MW). The project is located on the Beas River in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, about 260 km from Chandigarh. Developed at an investment of Rs 98.97 billion, the plant comprises four Pelton turbine units of 200 MW each.
The project features an 85-metre-high concrete gravity dam and a 31.5 km head race tunnel (HRT), operating as a run-of-the-river scheme. It is designed to generate about 3,108.66 million units (MUs) of electricity annually. NHPC declared the Commercial Operation Date for Unit 4 of the project on April 16, 2025.
The PPA follows another agreement signed by NHPC within a week. On June 24, 2026, NHPC and Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) signed a PPA for the supply of electricity from the 260 MW Dulhasti Stage-II Hydroelectric Project in Jammu & Kashmir.
