Odisha targets 11 GW renewable capacity by 2030, approves 16 projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore

Odisha is targeting 11 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and has approved 16 projects worth around Rs 2 lakh crore, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said at the Energy Conclave 2026. He added that the state expects to invest another Rs 30,000 crore in transmission infrastructure to support large-scale renewable energy integration.

The Energy Conclave 2026 was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the Department of Energy.

Investment pipeline

Singh Deo said Odisha received investment intents worth Rs 67,000 crore during the investors’ meet held in February 2026. The proposals cover renewable energy projects with a cumulative capacity of 6.7 GW, including solar, wind, pumped storage and hybrid projects.

He said these investments are aligned with Odisha’s Vision 2047 for sustainable growth.

Clean energy initiatives

The Deputy Chief Minister said battery energy storage projects are being planned at six locations across the state.

He also said Odisha has attracted investments in green hydrogen and green ammonia projects along its coastline. In addition, the state is developing a research ecosystem with support from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and institutions in Singapore.

Transmission expansion

Vishal Kumar Dev, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department, said Odisha will invest Rs 4,500 crore to strengthen transmission and distribution infrastructure.

He also announced that Bhubaneswar will host the Global Energy Leaders Summit 2026.

Recent project approvals

The state recently approved 15 renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 1,675.5 MW and 502 MWh of storage under the 17th Single Window Committee meeting held under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy (OREP)-2022. The projects involve an investment of Rs 10,068.53 crore.

Separately, NLC India Renewables Limited and the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) have signed a joint venture agreement to develop 1,000 MW of renewable energy projects in the state.

Industry views

Speaking at the conclave, Anil Kumar Singh, Chairman, CII Odisha State Council, called for stronger collaboration between industry and government to accelerate the energy transition.

Prashant Choubey of Avaada Group said Odisha is well positioned to emerge as a major hub for green hydrogen and green ammonia production.
