Vedanta Power seeks global partners for 15 GW thermal expansion

Vedanta Power Limited has invited expressions of interest (EOIs) from global manufacturers and engineering companies for Boiler-Turbine-Generator (BTG) and Balance of Plant (BoP) packages for its proposed 15,000 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power expansion programme.

The company currently operates 4.8 GW of thermal power capacity across Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

15,000 MW expansion programme

Vedanta Power plans to develop 15,000 MW of ultra-supercritical thermal power capacity and is seeking technology and execution partners for major project packages.

The company has invited participation from both individual companies and consortiums for equipment supply, engineering and project execution activities.

The first package covers the supply and installation supervision of ultra-supercritical boiler, turbine and generator units. The package is aimed at manufacturers with experience in delivering BTG systems for large-scale thermal power projects.

The second package covers the Balance of Plant scope on either an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis or an Engineering, Procurement and Supervision (EPS) basis. The scope includes supporting infrastructure and auxiliary systems required for plant operations.

Bidders may participate in either package individually or submit proposals for an integrated solution covering both BTG and BoP requirements.

Partner requirements

Vedanta Power stated that prospective partners should have a demonstrated track record in executing comparable BTG or BoP packages for thermal power projects.

The company is also seeking technology providers capable of supporting high-efficiency power generation while meeting environmental and emission standards.

Project support and sustainability measures

According to the company, Vedanta Power will provide land, local permits and regulatory approvals, battery-limit utilities and associated infrastructure for the projects.

The company highlighted sustainability measures implemented at its existing thermal power plants, including 100% fly ash utilisation, biomass co-firing and zero freshwater use.

Capacity growth plans

The proposed 15,000 MW programme forms part of Vedanta Power’s long-term target of expanding its generation portfolio to 20 GW. The company expects its installed capacity to reach 12 GW by FY33.

Vedanta Power is also advancing expansion at existing facilities. The second 600 MW unit at the Sakti power plant is scheduled for commissioning during the second half of FY27.

The planned 15,000 MW expansion is among the largest thermal power development programmes announced by a private sector company in recent years. If implemented, the projects would support rising electricity demand, create construction and operations jobs, generate business for equipment manufacturers and contractors, and contribute to regional economic activity across project locations.
