Andhra Pradesh inaugurates SAEL’s 600 MW solar projects in Kadapa
Andhra Pradesh Information Technology (IT) Minister Nara Lokesh inaugurated SAEL Industries Limited’s 600 MW solar power projects in Kadapa district, marking a major renewable energy development in the state.
The projects, SAEL Solar MHP1 and SAEL Solar MHP2, were completed within 11 months with an investment of nearly Rs 3,000 crore. Located across more than 2,400 acres in T Konduru village in the Jammalamadugu area of Kadapa district, the projects are expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as a renewable energy investment destination.
The integrated facility comprises two solar projects of 300 MW each. More than 12 lakh TOPCon bifacial solar modules have been deployed, with most modules assembled at SAEL’s manufacturing facilities in Punjab and Rajasthan.
The projects achieved commercial operations earlier this year. MHP1 commenced operations on January 30, 2026, while MHP2 commenced operations on March 13, 2026. Power generated from the projects will be supplied to the national grid under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
According to the company, the projects are expected to reduce carbon emissions by nearly 11 lakh tonnes annually. Around 760 farmers and their families are also expected to benefit through long-term land lease agreements extending up to 25 years. The projects are additionally expected to support local employment generation.
Nara Lokesh said the commissioning reflects Andhra Pradesh’s focus on industrial growth and clean energy expansion. He stated that the timely execution of the projects was supported by cooperation from local farmers and youth.
Lokesh said the state is developing 22 dedicated growth clusters across sectors including electronics, green energy, software, drones, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and advanced manufacturing. He added that SAEL’s execution was supported by coordination with farmers, local communities, engineers, labourers, and district officials.
Energy Minister G Ravi Kumar said the projects were developed under Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy. He stated that the government aims to develop 500 GW of power capacity and is pursuing reforms to support a target of generating 20 lakh jobs. He also said substations are being developed across the state to improve power supply reliability.
The inauguration comes as Andhra Pradesh advances implementation of its Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, under which the state aims to attract investments worth Rs 10 lakh crore across renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen, transmission, and manufacturing.
