IndiGrid commissions 180 MW/360 MWh BESS project in Gujarat
IndiGrid has commissioned a 180 MW/360 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Gujarat through its special purpose vehicle Gujarat BESS Private Limited.
The project, tied up with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, was fully commissioned on May 7, 2026, after partial commissioning on March 19, 2026.
According to the company, the project is among the largest standalone BESS facilities commissioned at a single location in India. The system has been designed for dual-cycle operations per day.
The project is expected to support renewable energy integration, reduce grid constraints, assist in peak demand management, and improve grid reliability in Gujarat.
IndiGrid stated that the BESS facility will contribute to higher renewable energy penetration and help address intermittency challenges in the power system while supporting round-the-clock clean energy availability.
The commissioning was carried out with support from Gujarat power sector entities including Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) Gujarat, Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited, and Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited.
