ISTS waiver extended for RE projects delayed by transmission gaps
The Ministry of Power issued an Office Memorandum on April 16, 2026, clarifying eligibility for graded waiver of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) charges for renewable energy projects delayed due to transmission infrastructure gaps. Projects with a firm start date of connectivity between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2028 will remain eligible, subject to defined conditions. These include a firm power purchase agreement (PPA) as of March 31, 2026 and commissioning within specified timelines linked to transmission readiness. Projects with connectivity on or before June 30, 2025 may qualify for a 100% waiver under similar conditions. The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has been directed to frame regulations for implementation.
Power Ministry to scrap PTCC clearance for transmission lines
The Ministry of Power will abolish the requirement for Power and Telecommunication Coordination Committee (PTCC) clearance for new transmission projects from July 1, 2026. Stakeholders noted that PTCC requirements have become largely redundant due to modern transmission design and fibre-based telecom systems. Residual risks linked to legacy copper networks will be addressed through technical guidelines to be issued by CEA. The move is expected to reduce project timelines and simplify approval processes.
