Coal India Limited (CIL) has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO) for setting up a 750 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Choutuppal.Â
The project has a power capacity of 187.5 MW with four hours of storage. It is estimated to cost Rs 1,057.09 crore and has been awarded at a tariff of Rs 3.14 lakh per MW per month.
CIL is required to submit the necessary documents within 15 days of the LOA, after which the BESS agreement will be executed. The project has an implementation timeline of 18 months from the date of signing.
The Choutuppal project adds to CIL’s recent activity in the energy storage segment. The company, along with Onward Solar Power, earlier secured projects under a Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) auction for six standalone BESS projects in Odisha with a total capacity of 125 MW/500 MWh.Â
Separately, CIL’s board has approved a corporate guarantee of up to Rs 3,160 crore for CIL Rajasthan Akshay Urja Limited (CRAUL). The guarantee will support the development of an 875 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Rajasthan.
