ACME Solar commissions 4 MW wind capacity in Gujarat

ACME Solar Holdings Limited stated that its subsidiary, ACME Eco Clean Energy Private Limited, has received certification for commissioning 4 MW of a wind power project in Gujarat. The Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) issued the certificate on March 9, 2026. The capacity is located in Garambhadi village in Sayla Taluka of Surendranagar district and forms part of a 100 MW wind project being developed by the subsidiary. The disclosure follows an earlier update filed on February 7, 2026, while a separate 16 MW portion of the project received a commissioning certificate on January 31, 2026.

NTPC Green declares commercial operation of 91.6 MW solar capacity

NTPC Green Energy Limited announced the commercial operation of a 91.6 MW segment of a solar power project in Andhra Pradesh. The capacity is part of a 250 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project developed by Ayana Kadapa Renewable Power Private Limited. Certification from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) dated March 9, 2026 confirmed that the second part capacity achieved commercial operation on February 27, 2026. The first portion of 158.4 MW had already been declared operational on February 20, 2026. With this addition, NTPC Green Energy’s total installed commercial capacity increased from 9,201.08 MW to 9,292.68 MW.

POWERGRID board approves Rs 5,000 crore fund raise, CTUIL divestment plan

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) board approved multiple decisions during its meeting on March 9, 2026, including a fund raising plan and an in-principle divestment of its wholly owned subsidiary Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL). The company authorised borrowing of up to Rs 5,000 crore through unsecured rupee term loans or lines of credit from Union Bank of India. The board also approved an investment of Rs 233.96 crore to establish a Centralized Security Operations Center for Substations – Operational Technology Security Operations Center (OT SOC), to be implemented within 24 months from approval by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). In addition, POWERGRID granted in-principle approval to divest its entire equity stake in CTUIL to Grid Controller of India Limited (GRID-INDIA) and approved a strategic alliance with Africa50 and Uganda Development Bank (UDB) to develop a transmission project in Uganda under the Independent Power Transmission (IPT) model.

Nathpa Jhakri hydropower station crosses 150 billion units generation

The 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS), operated by SJVN Limited, has achieved cumulative generation of 150 billion units (BU) as of March 9, 2026. The underground hydropower project has maintained consistent operational performance since its commissioning in May 2004. NJHPS recorded its highest annual generation of 7,610.257 million units in fiscal year 2011-12, its highest monthly generation of 1,222.170 million units in July 2024, and its highest daily generation of 39.572 million units on August 13, 2024. The station supplies green power to the northern grid and continues operations with modernization measures, digital monitoring systems and maintenance programmes.

Tata Power acquires 40% stake in Bhutan’s Dorjilung hydro project

Tata Power has acquired a 40% equity stake in Dorjilung Hydro Power Limited (DHPL), the company developing the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydro Power Project in Bhutan. The first tranche investment of Rs 50 crore involved the subscription of 50,00,000 equity shares of Rs 100 each through cash consideration. The investment follows a shareholders’ agreement signed with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) on November 21, 2025, under which Tata Power plans to invest about Rs 1,572 crore over six years. DHPL was incorporated on December 8, 2025 to develop the project, which has an estimated cost of about Rs 13,100 crore. Following the transaction, DHPL will become an associate company of Tata Power.

MoEFCC mandates 10 MW solar capacity at KSK Mahanadi thermal plant

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has amended the environmental clearance for the 3,600 MW KSK Mahanadi coal-based thermal power plant in Janjgir-Champa district, Chhattisgarh. The amendment requires installation of 10 MW solar capacity, including 4 MW rooftop solar by financial year 2028 and 6 MW floating solar by 2029. The condition was recommended by the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) for Thermal Power Projects during its 37th meeting. The amendment also revises environmental compliance conditions, including annual third-party laboratory testing of coal and ash samples and alignment of ash utilisation obligations with the Fly Ash Notification, 2021. The project consists of six units of 600 MW each at Village Nariyara in Tehsil Akaltara and originally received environmental clearance in October 2009.

Bank of Baroda launches India’s first domestic green infrastructure bond

Bank of Baroda has raised Rs 10,000 crore through the issuance of green infrastructure bonds in the domestic market. The Series I Long-Term Green Infrastructure Bonds have a tenure of seven years with a coupon rate of 7.10% per annum. The issue received bids worth Rs 16,415 crore against a base issue size of Rs 5,000 crore, enabling the bank to raise the full Rs 10,000 crore. The proceeds will be used to finance renewable energy and other eligible sustainable infrastructure projects under the bank’s Green Financing Framework. The bonds carry a ‘AAA’ rating with a stable outlook from Credit Analysis and Research (CARE) Ratings and the Investment Information and Credit Rating Agency (ICRA).

Oriana Power wins EPC contract for 234 MW floating solar project

Oriana Power Limited has received a letter of award for a 234 MW grid-tied floating solar photovoltaic (FSPV) plant at the Maithon Dam Reservoir in Jharkhand. The contract, valued at Rs 1,180.53 crore including GST, covers engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the project along with long-term operation and maintenance (O&M) services. The scope includes design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning of the floating solar PV plant. The project will be developed at the Maithon Dam Reservoir operated by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The company stated that the project is scheduled for completion within 18 months.

RPSL subsidiary signs 65 MW BESS agreement with GUVNL

Rajesh Power Projects Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rajesh Power Services Limited (RPSL), has signed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for a 65 MW / 130 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at Virpore in Gujarat. The BESPA was executed on March 6, 2026 following a Letter of Intent issued by GUVNL on January 5, 2026. The project will operate under a 12-year offtake arrangement at a tariff of Rs 1.89 lakh per MW per month and is designed to supply power for up to two hours. The system is scheduled for commissioning within 18 months and forms part of GUVNL’s programme to develop 2,000 MW / 4,000 MWh of BESS capacity in Gujarat. The project is supported by Viability Gap Funding through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF).
