Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL) has issued guidelines for installing smart meters at specific HT metering points. The directive defines where smart meters are required, lists exemptions, and sets a three day timeline for certain replacements.

The directive states that all HT billing meters with ABT and Net Metering facilities, including Open Access ABT meters, need to be replaced with smart meters of the same accuracy class. Associated check meters are excluded. These replacements are to be completed within three days from the date of issue. The letter also directs that check meters for all HT consumers, except those linked to Open Access and Net Metering, need to be replaced with smart meters.

Summator meters and dual source meters are not part of the replacement requirement. All new Open Access and Net Metering connections need to be released with smart meters in line with revised specifications issued by the corporate office. Existing ABT and Net meters removed during the replacement exercise are to remain in the safe custody of the Executive Engineer of the Testing Division.

The directive instructs all Chief Engineers Operations and Maintenance to carry out installation work as outlined.
