Tata Power Company Ltd has outlined a plan to set up a 10 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Odisha with an investment of Rs 10000 crore. The project is intended to expand the company’s solar manufacturing base and support its upstream supply chain.
The company said ingots and wafers serve as core inputs for solar cells, solar modules and semiconductor chips. Tata Power’s existing cell and module capacity stands at 4.55 GW. The proposed unit is expected to strengthen backward integration for its domestic operations and its export business.
Two locations are under review. Gopalpur in Ganjam district and Cuttack are being evaluated, and both sites offer access to port infrastructure. The company said it is assessing these options before finalising the project location.
