Tata Power Odisha discoms launch 1 kW rooftop solar scheme

Author: PPD Team Date: September 2, 2025

Tata Power-led Odisha discoms have launched a one-kilowatt rooftop solar scheme under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The scheme enables households to adopt rooftop solar at a reduced upfront cost of Rs 5,000 against the standard Rs 65,000-Rs 75,000.

Central and state subsidies of Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively will cover most of the cost. Discoms will provide the net meter, while consumers will pay for the solar generation meter. A 1 kW system is expected to generate about 100 units monthly, saving households nearly Rs 5,000 a year.

Tata Power will manage installation, quality checks, and service. The company will offer a five-year warranty on system components and 25 years on panels. Consumers need only submit a consent form with the one-time payment.

In July, Tata Power also launched a power distribution technology centre in Bhubaneswar, the first state-level integrated control centre in India’s distribution sector.
