The Government of Haryana has announced a phased action plan to control air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR).
From January 1, 2026, only electric or compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered two-wheelers, light commercial vehicles, and N1-category large goods vehicles will be allowed to join vehicle fleets in NCR districts. All new autorickshaws must also be electric or CNG-based. A complete ban on non-BS-VI compliant goods vehicles, including those carrying essential commodities, will come into effect from October 31, 2026.
From November 1, 2026, only electric, CNG, or BS-VI compliant buses will be allowed entry into Delhi. In line with this transition, Haryana plans to add 382 BS-VI buses by October 2025 for better connectivity with the national capital.
These vehicle mandates are expected to accelerate demand for EV charging infrastructure, especially in urban areas such as Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sonipat. The shift will require coordination between state transport and power departments to plan grid upgrades, public charging networks, and incentives for private charging installations.
