Tata Power and ONGC sign MoU to explore BESS

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) to explore joint opportunities in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) sector. 

The MoU was signed at India Energy Week 2025 in the presence of Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and senior executives from both companies.

The collaboration will focus on commercial opportunities across the BESS value chain, including utility-scale systems, grid stabilization, renewable energy integration, microgrids, hybrid energy solutions, industrial storage, backup power, electric vehicle charging, and energy trading through ancillary services.

TPREL recently commissioned India’s largest solar and BESS project, a 100 MW solar PV plant with a 120 MWh utility-scale BESS in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. The partnership aims to support India’s renewable energy targets and enhance grid stability.
