Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, met Sri Lanka’s Minister of Industry, Shri Sunil Handunnetti, in New Delhi. They focused on boosting bilateral cooperation in mineral exploration, particularly in securing critical minerals like graphite and beach sand, key for clean energy and advanced technologies.
Shri Dubey outlined India’s National Critical Mineral Mission to secure raw materials like lithium, graphite, and nickel, stressing the importance of mining rights and global partnerships. Both sides explored opportunities for exploration, technological collaboration, and investment, with Sri Lanka urging India to encourage its companies to invest in beach sand and graphite resources.
The two countries also discussed finalizing an MoU on “Cooperation in the Field of Geology and Mineral Resources.” Shri Dubey expressed confidence that the MoU would enhance capacity building, exploration, and mineral processing collaboration. He reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s mining industry with technological and financial assistance.
Shri Dubey noted, “Our cooperation in the mining sector will strengthen our economic ties and foster mutual growth and sustainability.” Both leaders agreed to expedite efforts in formalizing agreements and exploring new opportunities for cooperation.
