YamnaCo Limited has signed a memorandum of understanding with the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) to explore a green hydrogen and ammonia project near Krishnapatnam port.
The proposed project will be developed in phases and aims to build a grid-connected green ammonia facility with a capacity of up to 1 million tonnes per annum. It will use renewable energy from the Indian grid and involve an estimated investment of Rs 160 billion.
The project is expected to create approximately 5,500 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
This development aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s broader green hydrogen plans. The state government has announced a strategy to establish a green hydrogen valley in Amaravati by 2030. As part of this, it targets 2 gigawatts (GW) of electrolyser manufacturing capacity by 2027, scaling up to 5 GW by 2029. It also aims to develop 1.5 million tonnes per annum of green hydrogen production capacity by 2029.
