The United States and Armenia are advancing a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral energy cooperation for strengthening Armenia’s energy resilience through modernisation and expanded energy production, US Ambassador to Armenia Kristina Kvien said.

Speaking at the American Chamber of Commerce in Armenia, Kvien said the cooperation will support resource diversification, grid modernisation, and reliable energy supply for businesses and communities. She highlighted civilian nuclear capabilities as a key pillar of Armenia’s energy security.

Kvien said the initiative is also expected to aid regional integration and support Armenia’s economic renewal and international investment.

The MoU outlines a comprehensive energy security partnership. As part of this engagement, the United States and Armenia are negotiating a 123 agreement, which would allow the United States to export civilian nuclear technology to Armenia. Kvien said the agreement would support Armenia’s transition from the Metsamor nuclear reactor to a modern and flexible nuclear system.
