The Sustainable and Affordable Energy for Life Industries Limited (SAEL) plans to procure 2 million tonnes of paddy stubble in 2025 for conversion into clean electricity through its fuel aggregation network. The company operates 11 waste-to-energy plants across Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan with a combined capacity of 165 MW. The initiative is expected to cut around 300,000 tonnes of carbon equivalent emissions.
Laxit Awla, CEO and executive director of SAEL Industries Limited, said that crop residue remains an underused resource with environmental and economic potential. By converting agricultural waste into clean energy, the company aims to create additional income for farmers and address the problem of stubble burning.
Awla added that the effort will help preserve soil quality, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce reliance on fossil fuel imports while supporting a more resilient energy system. SAEL aims to turn a large share of paddy waste into renewable energy and strengthen sustainable practices within India’s agri-energy sector.
