The Union Government has allocated a total outlay of Rs 218.47 billion to the Ministry of Power (MoP) under the Union Budget for 2025-26, announced on February 1, 2025. The key allocations include:

  • Rs 160.21 billion for the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
  • Rs 8.5 billion for Strengthening of Power Systems, which includes Rs 3.04 billion for the North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) and Rs 2.95 billion for Externally-Aided Projects (EAP) in Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Manipur.
  • Rs 11 billion for the Power System Development Fund.
  • Rs 27.13 billion for the assistance of central public sector units (CPSUs), including Rs 3 billion for the Pakal Dul Hydro Electric Project as part of the Jammu & Kashmir Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) 2015.
  • Rs 77.63 billion for PSUs, including Rs 73.89 billion for Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and Rs 3.74 billion for Bhartiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited (BHAVINI).

The proposed investment of Rs 861.38 billion in various PSUs includes allocations for:

  • Rs 3 billion for Power System Operation Corporation Limited.
  • Rs 130 billion for NHPC Limited.
  • Rs 33.94 billion for Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
  • Rs 26 billion for North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO).
  • Rs 120 billion for SJVN Limited.
  • Rs 35.43 billion for THDC India Limited.
  • Rs 250 billion for Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL).
  • Rs 260 billion for NTPC Limited.
  • Rs 3 billion for Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPL).

Additionally, the Union Government allocated Rs 265.49 billion to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), with the following key allocations:

  • Rs 766.1 million for “Establishment Expenditure of the Centre.”
  • Rs 242.24 billion for solar energy, including Rs 15 billion for on-grid solar power projects, Rs 26 billion under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) program, and Rs 200 billion for the “PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY).”
  • Rs 5.51 billion for the “Programme for Wind and other Renewable Energy,” including Rs 5 billion for wind power projects and Rs 510 million for off-grid and on-grid hydro power projects.
  • Rs 6 billion for the “Green Energy Corridor.”
  • Rs 6 billion for the “National Green Hydrogen Mission.”
  • Rs 3.25 billion for the “Bio Energy Programme.”
  • Rs 990.1 million for the “Support Programme.”
  • Rs 734 million for “Autonomous Bodies,” including National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), and National Institute of Bio Energy (NIBE), along with Rs 734 million for other investments.
