The UK Government and Odisha Energy Department are collaborating to accelerate Odisha’s transition to net zero.

The collaboration focuses on clean energy, industrial decarbonisation, and urban sustainability, with plans to add 10.9 GW of renewable energy by 2029-30. Odisha has also set intermediary energy transition targets for 2036 and 2047.

Key initiatives include expanding renewable energy, modernising the grid, and introducing electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen buses for public transport. The state aims to ensure EV charging stations run entirely on green power. The UK is supporting these efforts by sharing expertise in policy frameworks, financing, and green hydrogen promotion.

In February, India and the UK launched the second phase of the Accelerating Smart Power and Renewable Energy in India (ASPIRE) programme during the Fourth India-UK Energy Dialogue in New Delhi. The initiative focuses on expanding renewable energy, improving industrial energy efficiency, and ensuring round-the-clock power supply. It is being implemented in partnership with India’s Ministry of Power and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

This collaboration builds on the UK-India Technology Security Initiative, launched in 2024, which promotes climate-focused innovation. It includes AI-driven energy resilience and securing critical minerals essential for renewable technologies.

With over 950 Indian-owned companies in the UK and more than 650 UK firms in India, both nations are fostering job creation and innovation while advancing their clean energy goals.
