TSECL to deploy drone surveillance for grid monitoring across Tripura

Author: PPD Team Date: 17/07/2025

Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) is preparing to roll out drone-based surveillance across the state to improve power reliability, safety, and operational efficiency, as reported by Northeast News.

TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu said the drone-based system will support predictive maintenance and rapid fault detection, reducing downtime and improving the stability of Tripura’s power supply.

The drones will conduct aerial inspections of transmission towers, conductors, insulators, and other equipment. High-resolution visuals will help detect corrosion, cracks, misalignments, and early signs of wear that are often missed from ground-level inspections.

AI-powered analysis will automate fault detection and identify vegetation encroachment, a common cause of outages. Drones will also aid in post-disaster damage assessment to speed up restoration work.

The Hindu recently reported that India’s energy consumption is expected to double by 2030. Artificial intelligence is seen as a key enabler in this transition, supporting predictive maintenance and grid balancing. However, effective deployment will require improvements in data quality and digital infrastructure.
