Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and officials from Nepal and Bangladesh inaugurated the first trilateral power flow transaction on 15 November 2024.
The event marked the transmission of hydroelectric power from Nepal to Bangladesh, facilitated through India’s electricity grid.
The power transaction stems from the Regional Cooperation for Power Purchase, Sale, Distribution, and Transmission agreement signed in June 2023 during Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to India. Under the agreement, Nepal exports 40 MW of hydroelectric power to Bangladesh, leveraging India’s transmission network.
The initiative is seen as a significant step in enhancing regional cooperation in power distribution and transmission while contributing to sustainable development in the region.
