THDC India Limited has started commercial operation of the second 660 MW unit at the Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (2×660 MW) in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh.
The inauguration of the unit was held on 22 September 2025 through a virtual ceremony led by Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs.
The Khurja project, with a total capacity of 1,320 MW, was built in 14 packages. The first 660 MW unit achieved commercial operation on 26 January 2025, followed by the second on 22 September 2025. The plant uses ultra-supercritical technology, incorporates environmental safeguards, and has coal linkage from the Amelia mine. It is expected to produce 9,264 million units annually.
The project is a joint venture between the Union Government and the Government of Uttar Pradesh at an investment of Rs 110.89 billion.
