Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited has completed NHPC Limited’s 450 MWp DC or 300 MW AC solar project at Karnisar Bhatiyan in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The company executed the project as the EPC contractor and has brought it online after two and a half years of work.
The project uses DCR compliant modules and reflects a major addition to Rajasthan’s solar portfolio. TPREL developed the plant, and all power is being supplied to PSPCL. Over its operating life, the project is expected to generate about 17,230 million units of clean electricity. The installation uses around 775000 modules supplied by TP Solar Limited in Tirunelveli.
TPREL completed the work in a region known for heat and difficult vehicle movement. The company used DCR cells and bifacial DCR modules, precision ramming, and high performance inverters designed for high temperature conditions. The company also hired more than 300 local workers and engaged several vendors in the area.
Along with this project for NHPC, TPREL is supplying DCR compliant cells and modules for SJVN’s 1 GW project and NLC’s 300 MW project. Both are moving toward commissioning and will add to the state’s renewable buildout.
The completion strengthens TPREL’s presence in India’s utility scale renewable segment. The company has commissioned more than 4.9 GW of third party projects so far, including over 980 MW in the current financial year. Its total renewable utility capacity now stands at 11.6 GW. Of this, 5.8 GW is operational, including 4.7 GW of solar and 1.1 GW of wind. Another 5.8 GW of projects is under implementation and is scheduled for phased completion over the next 6 to 24 months.
