Tata Power has commissioned the 400 kV Koteshwar Rishikesh transmission line. The company announced the development in a press release dated 09 December 2025.
The new line will evacuate up to 1,000 MW of hydropower from the Tehri Koteshwar complex in Uttarakhand and supply it to six northern states and three union territories. These include Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir.
The project was delivered by NRSS XXXVI Transmission Limited. The company was acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures, which is a joint venture promoted by Tata Power, ICICI Bank and global investors. The line was built across difficult Himalayan terrain at elevations above 1,816 metres. Tata Power said the completion within a year shows its execution strength. With this project, its operational and under execution transmission network has reached 7,083 circuit kilometres.
This is the third major element of the NRSS project to be commissioned. The line is expected to strengthen energy security and grid reliability across North India and support the integration of renewable energy into the national system.
