The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) granted Terms of Reference (ToR) for the 3,000 MW Saidongar I (Closed loop) Pumped Storage Project and the 1,200 MW Saidongar II (Closed loop) Pumped Storage Project in Maharashtra on February 18, 2025.

Torrent Power Limited (TPL) will implement the 3,000 MW Saidongar I project through Torrent Psh 3 Private Limited in Saidongar, Kusur, and Dhak villages, Mawal and Karjat tehsil, Raigarh and Pune districts of Maharashtra, with an investment of Rs 130.17 billion. The 1,200 MW Saidongar II project will be executed by TPL through Torrent Psh 4 Private Limited in the same locations at an investment of Rs 60.88 billion.

Additionally, the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of MoEFCC recommended granting environmental clearance (EC) for the 2×800 MW Bandhaura Thermal Power Plant Expansion Project during its meeting on January 24, 2025. Mahan Energy Limited (MEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Power Limited (APL), is developing the project in Bandhaura village, Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, based on ultra-supercritical technology, with an investment of Rs 138.63 billion.

On the same day, EAC recommended granting ToR for the 3×800 MW Coal-Based Ultra Super Critical Nilanchal Thermal Power Plant. Orissa Thermal Energy Limited (OTEL), a subsidiary of Adani Power Limited, will develop the plant at Rahangol and Kandarei villages, Athagarh tehsil, Cuttack district of Odisha, at an estimated cost of Rs 274.38 billion.

Further, EAC recommended amending the ToR for the North Chennai Thermal Power Project Stage III. However, it deferred the validity extension of EC for the Ennore SEZ Supercritical Thermal Power Project.
