CEA recommends higher-capacity OPGW to support broadband expansion

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has advised the adoption of higher-capacity optical ground wire (OPGW) in upcoming power transmission projects to facilitate telecom service providers.  The recommendation follows a collaboration between the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Union Power Ministry. India targets 777 GW power capacity by 2030 with focus on thermal and hydro

Union Minister of State for Power, Shripad Naik, informed Parliament that India is actively expanding its power generation and transmission capacity to meet growing energy demands.  Currently, 29,200 MW of thermal capacity is under construction, with 51,520 MW in the planning stages. PGCIL commissions NERSS-XII project

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has commissioned the North Eastern Region Strengthening Scheme-XII (NERSS-XII) project, effective 2 November 2024.  The notification for commercial operation was received on 23 November 2024.  NERSS-XII is an interstate transmission scheme aimed at enhancing the power infrastructure in India’s North-East region. PGCIL developed the project for Rs 5.76 billion.
