POWERGRID approves Rs 914 crore capex for cold spare equipment
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) announced on 20 January 2026 that its Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects has approved three capital expenditure proposals for procuring cold spare transformers and reactors. The combined estimated cost of the approvals is about Rs 914 crore.
The approvals cover three separate procurement packages, each with an implementation period of 30 months from the date of investment approval. The first relates to procurement sanctioned by the Western Regional Power Committee (WRPC), with an estimated cost of Rs 401.88 crore.
The second approval covers procurement sanctioned by the North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC), at an estimated cost of Rs 166.33 crore. The third approval relates to procurement sanctioned by the Southern Regional Power Committee (SRPC), with an estimated cost of Rs 345.78 crore.
POWERGRID said the investments are intended to strengthen grid reliability and improve infrastructure resilience. The procurement of cold spare transformers and reactors is aimed at ensuring the availability of critical equipment for key transmission assets across multiple regions.
