NTPC and RVUNL form joint venture for Chhabra thermal power plant

NTPC Limited has signed a joint venture agreement (JVA) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) to jointly own and operate the Chhabra thermal power plant.  The 2,320 MW plant, currently managed by RVUNL, comprises four 250 MW units (Stage 1) and two 660 MW units (Stage 2). Under this 50:50 partnership, the joint venture aims to manage the plant’s operations and explore capacity expansion opportunities.

NTPC approves Rs 800 billion investment for 6,400 MW thermal projects

NTPC‘s board has approved investment proposals totalling approximately Rs 800 billion for thermal power projects with a combined capacity of 6,400 MW. NTPC Limited, through its R&D arm NETRA, is set to build a green hydrogen production plant that will use plasma oxy gasification technology for municipal solid waste (MSW) and agri-waste.  This pioneering plant will generate high-purity hydrogen (over 99.9%) through plasma-assisted ‘oxy gasification’ of MSW-RDF/agri-waste, creating a superior synthesis gas (syn-gas). NTPC‘s R&D division, NETRA, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) Dehradun, has developed an indigenous catalyst for converting CO2 into methanol.  This catalyst, crucial for chemical synthesis, facilitates CO2 hydrogenation and is currently being tested in a 10 kg/day methanol pilot plant.
