SJVN completes trial run of 660 MW Buxar thermal unit in Bihar

SJVN Limited announced the successful completion of the 72-hour trial run of Unit-1 (660 MW) of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar on November 5, 2025. With this milestone, the company is set to begin commercial operations of the unit.

SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta congratulated the project team, noting that the achievement demonstrates the company’s technical capability and the collective effort of employees, contractors, and stakeholders. Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma said the trial run marks a key milestone in SJVN’s growth, commending the team’s dedication and professionalism despite operational challenges.

The Buxar project, located at Chausa in Buxar district, Bihar, is being developed by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN. The project uses supercritical technology aimed at improving efficiency and lowering environmental impact. It involves an investment of Rs 13,756.56 crore and is expected to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually. Under a long-term power purchase agreement, 85 per cent of the output has been allocated to Bihar. 

SJVN has scheduled a board meeting on November 10, 2025, to approve its Q2 FY25 results and consider a proposal to raise funds through asset securitisation. The company’s trading window will remain closed until November 12, 2025.
