SECI enters C&I renewable energy market with 700 MW term sheet

Representatives of SECI and Acme Cleantech Solutions exchange signed documents during the signing of a 700 MW Commercial and Industrial (C&I) renewable power term sheet at SECI's office, with officials from both organisations present.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has signed a 700 MW Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Term Sheet with Acme Cleantech Solutions Private Limited at the SECI office. The agreement marks SECI’s first transaction in the C&I segment and expands its renewable power supply model beyond the traditional distribution company (DISCOM) market.

Entry into the C&I segment

The agreement opens a new route for renewable power supply to a wider range of customers in the commercial and industrial sector. It also supports SECI’s strategy to serve a broader base of clean energy buyers and address growing demand for renewable power from industrial and commercial consumers.

The move comes as renewable energy adoption in India’s C&I sector continues to accelerate, driven by decarbonisation goals, cost competitiveness and regulatory requirements.

Growing renewable energy demand

According to Crisil Ratings, renewable energy capacity in the C&I segment is expected to increase to 57 GW by fiscal 2028 from around 40 GW expected by the end of fiscal 2026. The projected growth is supported by favourable long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) tariffs compared to on-grid tariffs, corporate net-zero commitments, Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) requirements, attractive returns and strong counterparty profiles for developers.

The expansion of renewable energy procurement by commercial and industrial consumers is creating new opportunities for developers and power suppliers seeking to diversify beyond conventional utility-scale markets.
