SECI and KSEB partner for 125 MW battery storage project

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has signed an agreement with Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to set up a 125 MW/500 MWh battery storage system in Kasaragod.

The project, to be completed by mid-2025, will help manage peak power demand and stabilize Kerala’s electricity grid.

JSW Energy won the contract through a competitive bidding process, agreeing to build and operate the facility for Rs 4.41 lakh per MW per month. The battery system will store excess electricity during low-demand periods and supply power when needed most.

KSEB has offered an Rs 8.4 crore incentive for early completion, aiming to finish the project in 9 months instead of the planned 18 months. This is Kerala’s first major grid-scale battery project, with more storage facilities planned across the state in coming years.
