REC appoints RITES for transformer quality monitoring under RDSS

Officials from REC Limited and RITES Limited pose with signed contract documents at REC's corporate office in Gurugram following the signing ceremony.

REC Limited has signed a contract with RITES Limited for third-party quality monitoring of power transformers to be deployed under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

RITES, a Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Railways, will act as REC’s Third-Party Quality Monitoring Agency (TPQMA) for conducting Pre-Dispatch Inspection (PDI) of transformers before their deployment in the two states.

Contract details

The agreement was signed at REC’s corporate office in Gurugram by Yogendra Singh, General Manager and Head of Department (PMD Quality), REC, and Akshaya Kumar Swain, Additional General Manager, RITES Limited.

Officials from both organisations were present during the signing ceremony.

Quality oversight

Under the arrangement, RITES will undertake quality inspections of power transformers covered under RDSS projects in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Pre-Dispatch Inspection is intended to verify compliance with technical specifications and quality standards before equipment is dispatched to project sites.

The engagement forms part of REC’s quality assurance framework for RDSS implementation, which seeks to strengthen distribution infrastructure and improve operational performance across state power utilities.

REC is a nodal agency for implementation of RDSS, a Government of India programme aimed at improving the financial and operational efficiency of electricity distribution companies through investments in infrastructure upgrades, metering and system modernisation.
