The Government of Punjab plans to install rooftop solar power systems with a combined capacity of 30 MW on 390 government buildings by March 2026.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 1,500 million and will be implemented by the Punjab Energy Development Authority (PEDA).
The rooftop solar initiative will cover prominent buildings from 25 departments, including Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Local Government, and Water Resources. The tendering process has been completed, paving the way for implementation. The 30 MW project is expected to result in annual electricity savings of approximately Rs 150 million across these departments.
Punjab’s Minister of New and Renewable Energy Sources, Mr. Aman Arora, has instructed officials to identify further opportunities to expand solar capacity in the state.
Punjab has already installed rooftop solar systems on 1,098 government buildings, with a total capacity of 7.7 MW.
