The Punjab government plans to set up 66 solar power plants, each with a 4 MW capacity, totalling 264 MW, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower the state’s annual power subsidy. The project is expected to generate approximately 390 million units (MU) of electricity annually. The initiative, which includes feeder-level solarisation, is projected to save around Rs 1.36 billion annually and will be scaled up in the future.
The project is set to attract investments of approximately Rs 10.56 billion, creating job opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled workers in the non-conventional energy sector. Additionally, it is expected to boost agricultural output and revitalize the rural economy of Punjab.
