Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder under the tariff-based competitive bidding framework to establish the Inter-State Transmission System for the project titled “Inter Regional Strengthening between SR Grid and ER Grid.” The project will be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer basis, and POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent on 15 December 2025.
Power Finance Corporation Consulting Limited (PFCCL), the bid process coordinator for the project, had incorporated the special purpose vehicle, SR and ER Power Transmission Limited. The SPV is proposed to be transferred to the successful bidder. The estimated project cost is Rs 2,710 crore.
The project involves the development of 765 kV double circuit transmission lines passing through Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, along with associated line bays and reactor works at both ends.
As per the recommendations of the National Committee on Transmission in its 29th meeting held on 17 April 2025, the scheme is to be implemented within a tentative timeframe of 30 months from the date of transfer of the special purpose vehicle. The scope includes the Angul–Srikakulam 765 kV second double circuit line of around 275 km, installation of 240 MVAr shunt line reactors at both ends, and a 330 MVAr, 765 kV bus reactor at Angul substation, along with associated bays.
The project is intended to enhance import capability into the Southern Region Grid from the Eastern Region Grid, address high loading on the existing 765 kV Angul–Srikakulam line, and support rising peak demand in the Southern Region, while also catering to general power transfer requirements.
