POWERGRID clears HVDC refurbishment spend, commissions WRES XXV

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) announced two developments on 17 December 2025. The company’s Board of Directors approved an investment of Rs 1,226.93 crore for the refurbishment of the Bhadrawati Chandrapur high voltage direct current (HVDC) back to back system. POWERGRID also confirmed the commissioning of the Western Region Expansion Scheme Twenty Five (WRES XXV) transmission project.

At its board meeting held on 17 December 2025, POWERGRID approved capital expenditure for the Refurbishment of Bhadrawati Chandrapur HVDC two x 500 MW back to back system. The project cost is estimated at Rs 1,226.93 crore and will be implemented over a period of 36 months from the date of award. The investment forms part of the company’s additional capital expenditure plan for the 2024 to 2029 tariff block.

In a separate disclosure, POWERGRID informed the stock exchanges that the Western Region Expansion Scheme Twenty Five transmission project has been successfully commissioned. The project achieved operational status with effect from 12 November 2025. The company received formal confirmation of the Date of Commercial Operation through email on 17 December 2025.
