GE Vernova, L&T and Bondada report strong Q3 FY26 performance

GE Vernova T&D India Limited, Larsen and Toubro Limited and Bondada Engineering Limited reported strong quarterly performance, supported by higher order inflows, improved execution and margin expansion. GE Vernova T&D India recorded a 58% year on year rise in revenue to Rs 17.0 billion and profit after tax of Rs 2.9 billion, with order bookings growing 41% to Rs 29.4 billion. L&T reported a record order inflow of Rs 1,356 billion and an all-time high order book of Rs 7,332 billion, with international orders accounting for 49%. Bondada Engineering saw revenue rise 89.4% to Rs 7.1 billion, driven largely by Battery Energy Storage System projects totalling 850 MWh under execution.

NTPC Green declares 130.47 MW of Khavda solar project operational

NTPC Green Energy Limited declared commercial operation of a 130.47 MW portion of its Khavda solar project in Gujarat, effective January 29, 2026. The capacity forms part of the 1,255 MW Khavda I Solar Photovoltaic Project under the Central Public Sector Undertaking Scheme Phase II Tranche III. The project is being implemented by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited. Following this addition, the group’s installed capacity has increased from 8,347.78 MW to 8,478.25 MW.

ACME to set up 200 KTPA green methanol plant in Odisha

ACME Group signed a partnership with Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited to develop a 200 kilo tonnes per annum green methanol facility in Kendrapada district. The project will be implemented through ACME Akshya Energy and is expected to generate more than 1,100 jobs. ACME is also developing a green ammonia plant in Gopalpur in partnership with IHI Corporation. The projects are part of ACME’s broader plan to build an integrated green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol ecosystem in Odisha.

Suzlon secures 248.85 MW wind order from ArcelorMittal in Gujarat

Suzlon Energy Limited won a 248.85 MW wind project from the ArcelorMittal Group in Gujarat, marking its first order from the group. The project forms part of a 550 MW hybrid renewable development and will supply captive power to ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel facilities. With this order, Suzlon’s cumulative contribution to green steel projects has reached around 1,156 MW. The company said the project aligns with its strategy to scale its Engineering, Procurement and Construction business.

EAC clears coal plant expansions in UP and Odisha, defers Bihar proposal

The Expert Appraisal Committee under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change recommended environmental clearance for expansions at coal plants in Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. The largest approval was for Lalitpur Power Generation Company Ltd to add 2,400 MW at the Lalitpur Thermal Power Plant, raising total capacity to 4,380 MW. Amendments were also recommended for Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited and NTPC Limited projects in Odisha, subject to conditions. The committee deferred the proposal for NTPC’s Kanti Thermal Power Plant in Bihar pending additional data submission.

APTRANSCO plans Rs 9300 crore transmission expansion in Andhra Pradesh

Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd plans to complete 55 transmission projects with an investment of Rs 9,319.30 crore. The programme will add 8,853 MVA of transformation capacity and 1,558 circuit kilometers of transmission lines. New substations will be set up at locations including Kakinada SEZ, Achutapuram, Gudivada and Ainavalli. APTRANSCO is also implementing Battery Energy Storage System projects totalling 1,500 MW or 3,000 MWh.

Exide invests Rs 50 crore more in lithium ion arm EESL

Exide Industries Limited infused an additional Rs 50 crore into its wholly owned subsidiary Exide Energy Solutions Limited through a rights issue. The investment takes Exide’s total exposure in the lithium ion battery business to Rs 4,252.23 crore. EESL manufactures lithium ion battery cells, modules and packs for electric vehicles and stationary storage. The funds will support a greenfield manufacturing facility in Bengaluru and ongoing operations.

PM Modi highlights $500 billion investment potential in India’s energy sector

Narendra Modi said India offers $500 billion of investment opportunities across the energy value chain while addressing the inauguration of India Energy Week in Goa. He highlighted India’s refining capacity of around 260 million metric tonnes per annum, with plans to expand beyond 300 million metric tonnes. The Prime Minister also cited reforms in oil and gas exploration and a $100 billion investment target by 2030. He pointed to opportunities across Liquefied Natural Gas infrastructure, shipbuilding and downstream petrochemicals.

Kosol Energie to deploy 150,000 rooftop solar systems in Andhra Pradesh

Kosol Energie signed an agreement with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to deploy rooftop solar systems across around 150,000 households. The project will be implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana and supported by a 360 MW microinverter supply deal with Hoymiles Power Electronics Inc. The company said the project includes the largest single microinverter order in the Indian solar market. The programme aims to improve safety, efficiency and monitoring in residential rooftop solar.

Hindalco commissions battery foil unit, expands aluminium capacity in Odisha

Hindalco Industries Limited commissioned India’s first battery grade aluminium foil facility in Odisha and expanded aluminium smelting capacity at Sambalpur. The projects involve a combined investment of around Rs 21,000 crore and include a 3.6 lakh tonne per annum smelter expansion. Hindalco also commissioned a 1.7 lakh tonne flat rolled products and battery foil unit designed to support up to 100 GWh of lithium ion cell capacity. The company said the investments will reduce import dependence and support energy storage and electric mobility.

India rejects China’s WTO panel request on PLI schemes

India declined a request from China to establish a dispute panel at the World Trade Organization over Production Linked Incentive schemes. China argued the incentives discriminate against imported goods, including advanced chemistry cell batteries and electric vehicles. India said the measures are consistent with its WTO obligations and that China’s interpretation was incomplete. Under WTO rules, China may submit a second request at a future meeting.

Electric car sales edge past petrol cars in EU in December 2025

Fully electric car sales in the European Union surpassed petrol car sales for the first time in December 2025, according to Reuters. Electric cars accounted for 22.6% of registrations, slightly ahead of petrol cars at 22.5%, while hybrids led with 44%. Electrified vehicles made up 67% of total registrations during the month. Analysts expect electric vehicle adoption to continue rising despite a slower phase-out of combustion engines.
