NHPC synchronises second 250 MW unit of Subansiri Lower HEP
NHPC Limited has synchronised Unit–3, a 250 MW generating unit of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, with the National Grid at 9:00 PM on 21 January 2026. The project Chairman and Managing Director acknowledged support from the Ministry of Power, the Governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, and former NHPC leadership. The milestone is expected to support grid stability and phased commissioning of the remaining units. The 2,000 MW project spans Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and comprises eight units of 250 MW each.
GoodEnough Energy commissions 7 GWh BESS manufacturing plant in Noida
GoodEnough Energy has commissioned a 7 GWh battery energy storage system manufacturing facility in Noida, described as India’s largest dedicated BESS plant. The facility involves a capital investment of over Rs 450 crore and is operational from commissioning. The company plans to expand capacity to more than 25 GWh annually within three years. It linked the plant to India’s target of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030 and the estimated requirement of 230 GWh of energy storage.
Rays Power Infra secures Rs 1,912 crore 300 MW renewable project
Rays Power Infra Ltd has secured a 300 MW renewable energy project worth Rs 1,912 crore at a renewable energy park in Karnataka. The project will be developed under the company’s co-development model and completed within three years. Solar modules will use cells produced at a new Madhya Pradesh facility being developed by its subsidiary, Rays Green Energy. The award takes the company’s order book beyond Rs 8,000 crore as it advances plans for a potential initial public offering.
KP Green Engineering secures Rs 248 crore in fresh orders
KP Green Engineering Limited has received confirmed orders worth Rs 248.2 crore across multiple segments, taking January 2026 order inflows to about Rs 1,067.2 crore. The largest share relates to crash barriers and fencing, followed by transmission structures, pre-engineered buildings, and solar mounting systems. The company has indicated that execution is targeted for completion by 31 March 2026. The orders were disclosed in a regulatory filing to BSE Limited dated 20 January 2026.
KPI Green reports seventh straight quarter of record revenue in Q3 FY26
KPI Green Energy Limited reported its highest-ever quarterly revenue for the seventh straight quarter in Q3 FY26. For the nine months ended 31 December 2025, consolidated revenue rose 64% to Rs 1,931 crore and Profit After Tax increased 60% to Rs 354 crore. Q3 FY26 revenue stood at Rs 676 crore, with PAT of Rs 126 crore. The Board declared a third interim dividend of Rs 0.20 per equity share, with 28 January 2026 as the record date.
Waaree Energies posts record Q3 FY26 results
Waaree Energies Limited posted record standalone results in Q3 FY26, with revenue from operations of Rs 7,565.05 crores and PAT of Rs 1,106.79 crores. During the quarter, the company manufactured 3.51 GW of solar modules and 0.75 GW of solar cells. The results include an exceptional item of Rs 294.78 crores linked to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection investigation, with no demand received. The company also expanded manufacturing capacity in Gujarat and reported a consolidated order book of around Rs 60,000 crores.
Concord unit wins Rs 47 crore NTPC hydrogen locomotive contract
Concord Control Systems Limited has won a Rs 47 crore contract from NTPC Limited to develop a 3,100 HP green hydrogen hybrid locomotive. The project involves converting a diesel locomotive into a hydrogen-powered engine, exceeding the global benchmark of around 1,600 HP. Execution will be undertaken through its subsidiary with support from Railway Engineering Works. The initiative aligns with Indian Railways’ net-zero target for 2030 and NTPC’s hydrogen mobility strategy.
Topsun Energy wins solar BESS pilot project for Pang HVDC station
POWERGRID has awarded a Rs 9.63 crore contract to Topsun Energy Limited for a solar and battery energy storage pilot project at the Pang HVDC station. The system will supply power during the construction phase of the station. Topsun Energy emerged as the lowest bidder, with completion targeted by January 2027. The project reflects POWERGRID’s efforts to integrate renewable solutions into transmission infrastructure.
ReNew plans $500 million bond issue via GIFT City IFSC
ReNew Energy Global PLC is preparing a U.S. dollar bond issuance of around $500 million through the GIFT City IFSC. The proceeds are intended for refinancing existing debt, including about $525 million maturing in July 2026, and for on-lending within the group. The transaction is being managed by a consortium of international banks including Barclays, BNP Paribas, and JPMorgan. The plan follows a $331 million debt financing secured from the Asian Development Bank in November 2025.
Power Ministry releases Draft National Electricity Policy 2026
The Ministry of Power has issued the Draft National Electricity Policy 2026 under the Electricity Act, 2003. The draft outlines priorities including resource adequacy planning, cost-reflective tariffs, reduction of cross-subsidies, and improved financial health of distribution companies. It proposes exemptions from cross-subsidy charges for manufacturing, Indian Railways, and Metro Railways, and targets single-digit AT&C losses by 2030. Public comments have been invited within 30 days of issuance.
India highlights grid readiness, storage and finance priorities at WEF Davos 2026
At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted India’s focus on resilient infrastructure, grid readiness, and energy storage. He stated that India had reached 267 GW of non-fossil capacity as of December 2025 and reaffirmed the net-zero target for 2070. The Minister also held bilateral meetings on clean energy cooperation with representatives from Oman, Kuwait, and global investors. Women remain under-represented in renewable energy leadership: IRENA
A report by the International Renewable Energy Agency finds that women account for 32% of full-time jobs in the renewable energy sector. Representation drops sharply in technical and leadership roles, with women holding only 19% of senior management and board positions. The study estimates the global renewable workforce at 16.2 million in 2023, rising to about 30 million by 2030 under a Paris-aligned pathway. IRENA emphasises that improving gender diversity is essential to meeting future labour demand and achieving an inclusive energy transition.
