CEA seeks data on grid-forming inverter manufacturing capacity

The Central Electricity Authority has asked manufacturers in India to submit details of Grid-Forming inverter production capacity. The exercise is aimed at assessing domestic readiness as renewable energy penetration in the national grid increases. In a formal communication, the Energy Storage System Division said higher solar and wind shares require wider deployment of GFM inverters to support grid stability and reliability. Manufacturers have been asked to share company and contact details, manufacturing capacity in India, and indicative cost data for both GFM and Grid-Following inverters across central and string categories. The information is to be submitted by February 10, 2026.

IEX records highest-ever monthly power trade in January 2026

Indian Energy Exchange reported its highest monthly traded volume at 13,050 million units in January 2026, a year on year increase of 19.6%. The exchange said Real-Time Market volumes rose to 4,638 million units, up 52.8% from the previous year. It noted that national energy consumption increased by 3.8% during the month, alongside higher generation from hydro, wind, solar, and coal sources. Average Day-Ahead Market prices fell to Rs 3.86 per unit, while Real-Time Market prices declined to Rs 3.72 per unit. Trading in the Green Market rose to 832 million units, while Renewable Energy Certificate trades fell to 23.91 lakh certificates.

KEC International secures Rs 1,020 crore in new infrastructure orders

KEC International has secured new orders worth Rs 1,020 crores, with a major share from the power transmission and distribution segment. The company won 220 kV and 132 kV cabling contracts in Eastern India and secured transmission tower and hardware supply orders in the Americas. Additional orders were received in the cables and conductors business across domestic and overseas markets. Other contracts include a civil project for a multispeciality hospital and a railway siding transportation project in Central India. With these additions, the company’s year to date order intake stands at around Rs 20,300 crores.

POWERGRID acquires SR and ER Power Transmission

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has completed the acquisition of SR and ER Power Transmission Limited after emerging as the successful bidder through tariff based competitive bidding. The special purpose vehicle was set up to implement the Inter Regional Strengthening between SR Grid and ER Grid project on a BOOT basis. The project involves 765 kV double circuit transmission lines in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, along with associated bays and reactors. POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent from PFC Limited on 15 December 2025. Following the acquisition, the company will approach the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission for transmission licence approval and adoption of charges.

Gamma Green signs EPC contract for 9.9 MW wind project in Tamil Nadu

Gamma Green Power Private Limited has signed an EPC contract for a 9.9 MW wind power project in Tamil Nadu. The project involves installation of three wind turbine generators of 3.3 MW each in Tiruchirappalli district. The contract has been awarded to Renfra Energy India Limited on a turnkey basis. The capacity expansion was approved by the subsidiary’s Investment, Borrowing and Banking Committee. The project adds to the company’s existing wind portfolio.

NTPC Green commissions 125 MW solar capacity at Bhadla

NTPC Green Energy Limited has declared commercial operation of 125 MW solar capacity under its 500 MW Bhadla Solar PV Project in Rajasthan. The capacity achieved commercial operation from 00:00 hours on January 31, 2026, based on certification from Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited. The newly commissioned capacity is owned by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited. Earlier, the first 300 MW portion of the project was declared operational with effect from January 13, 2026. With the latest addition, the group’s installed capacity has reached 8,813.25 MW.

KPI Green achieves highest PM-KUSUM solar capacity in DGVCL region

KPI Green Energy Limited has commissioned 16.16 MWdc of solar capacity under the PM-KUSUM scheme in the DGVCL operational area. The company said this is the highest installed capacity achieved under the scheme in the region. The projects form part of its Independent Power Producer business and have received commissioning certificates. The capacity is supplying power for agricultural pumping with daytime electricity access. The company said the projects were completed within a short execution period.

Bajaj Electricals enters wiring segment with Secura Wires launch

Bajaj Electricals Limited has entered the wiring segment with the launch of Bajaj Secura Wires under its Lighting Solutions business. The new range includes four variants designed for residential wiring applications. The company said the products use copper with over 99.9% purity and feature flame retardant and halogen free insulation. The wires comply with RoHS and REACH standards and are offered in sizes from 0.75 sqmm to 6.00 sqmm. The launch expands the company’s domestic electrical product portfolio.

Epic Energy ties up with REFNIC for lithium-ion battery recycling facilities

Epic Energy Limited has entered into a technical collaboration with REFNIC to set up lithium ion battery recycling and second life application facilities. The project will be implemented through its special purpose vehicle, Swachchha Urja Nirman LLP. The facilities will include a battery shredding plant and a second life battery assembly unit with a combined capacity of about 10 MWh per month. The first facility will be set up at Wada in Maharashtra with a shredding capacity of 500 kilograms per hour. The initiative builds on an earlier technology transfer licence from the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology.

NLC India’s arm wins SECI renewable plus storage project

NLC India Limited said its subsidiary NLC India Renewables Limited has received a Letter of Award from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited. The award covers 600 MW of renewable capacity along with 300 MW or 1,800 MWh of energy storage systems. The project is part of a larger SECI tender for 1,200 MW renewable capacity with storage. Power supply will be contracted for 25 years under a Power Purchase Agreement. The Scheduled Commencement of Supply Date is 24 months from the PPA effective date.

India, Brazil hold first joint working group meeting on renewable energy

India and Brazil held the first meeting of their Joint Working Group on renewable energy cooperation on February 3, 2026. The meeting was co-chaired by Shri Abhay Bakre from India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Both sides shared overviews of national renewable programmes and discussed cooperation in hydrogen from zero and low emission technologies, grid integration, and bioenergy. The Joint Working Group was formed under a memorandum of understanding signed in July 2025. The MoU is valid for five years with a provision for automatic renewal.

Drivn secures up to $80 million from Nomura for electric bus, truck rollout

Drivn has secured financing commitments of up to $80 million from Nomura to deploy nearly 1,000 electric buses and trucks. The funding will support inter city and heavy transport operations. Founded in 2023, the company operates a full stack model that combines vehicle ownership with fleet technology and charging management. Drivn focuses on inter city transport, logistics, and asset intensive sectors. The company said the model targets emissions reduction in hard to abate segments.
