MoP extends deadline for comments on draft National Electricity Policy 2026

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has extended the deadline for submission of comments and suggestions on the draft National Electricity Policy, 2026 by one month to March 19, 2026. The draft policy was circulated on January 20, 2026 with an initial thirty day deadline ending February 19, 2026. In an office memorandum dated February 25, 2026, MoP stated that the competent authority approved the extension following requests from multiple stakeholders. The policy sets out the framework for power sector development across generation, transmission, distribution, and market reforms. MoP has directed that the notification be uploaded on its website under current notices for wider dissemination.

Tata Power partners University of Warwick on energy research

Tata Power Company Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with the University of Warwick, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 25, 2026 to collaborate on research and innovation in new energy systems. The collaboration will combine expertise from Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) and the School of Engineering with Tata Power’s industry capabilities across grid modernisation, energy storage, industrial decarbonisation, fast charging technologies, power storage solutions, digital energy systems, optimisation, and advanced manufacturing. The partnership also covers executive education programmes, capability development initiatives, exchange opportunities, and technical workshops aligned with industry requirements. The collaboration follows the establishment of a free trade agreement (FTA) between the United Kingdom (UK) and India, which is expected to support deeper cooperation in research, education, and industry engagement.

Adani Green incorporates UAE subsidiary AREMEL

Adani Green Energy Limited has incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary, Adani Renewable Energy Middle East Ltd (AREMEL), in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on February 25, 2026. The entity has been incorporated with an authorised capital of AED 10,000 and will undertake power generation using renewable energy sources in line with the core business of the parent company. The incorporation was completed through a cash consideration structure, with Adani Green Energy Limited holding 100% shareholding and full control. As a wholly owned subsidiary, AREMEL is treated as a related party of the listed company.

ACME Solar commissions first phase of Rajasthan BESS project

ACME Solar Holdings Limited (ASHL) has commissioned the first phase of its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Rajasthan. The initial 19 MW/38 MWh phase was activated on February 25, 2026 through its wholly owned subsidiary, ACME Suryodaya Private Limited. The project is located in the villages of Sanwara and Mehar Nagar in Pokhran Tehsil, Jaisalmer district, and forms part of a larger 285 MW/600 MWh development. ASHL plans to operate the initial capacity as a merchant asset, with flexibility to enter into a long term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) at a later stage. The commercial operation date (COD) for the first phase is scheduled for February 27, 2026.

NTPC Green commissions 50 MW of Dayapar wind project

NTPC Green Energy Limited has commissioned the first 50 MW phase of its 200 MW Dayapar Wind Energy Project Phase II in Gujarat. The capacity was declared commercially operational effective from 00:00 hours on February 26, 2026. The project is being developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy. According to a regulatory filing dated February 25, 2026, the commissioning increases the total installed capacity of the NTPC Green Energy Limited Group to 9,201.08 MW from 9,151.08 MW.

Saatvik Green secures Rs 87 crore solar module order

Saatvik Green Energy Limited has received and accepted an order worth Rs 87.10 crore for the supply of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules from a reputed independent power producer (IPP) or engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) player. The company disclosed the development in a regulatory filing dated February 25, 2026. The order has been awarded by a domestic entity and is commercial in nature, with execution scheduled for completion by March 2026. The company stated that neither the promoter, promoter group, nor group companies have any interest in the awarding entity, and the transaction is not classified as a related party transaction.

Maharashtra approves renewable energy and storage policy 2025-2035

The Maharashtra state cabinet has approved the Maharashtra Renewable Energy and Energy Storage Policy 2025-2035 to integrate energy storage with renewable generation and strengthen grid reliability. The policy introduces Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) capable of storing energy for up to four hours and targets procuring 65% of electricity from renewable sources by 2035, with storage supporting at least 10% of total power demand. It sets development targets of 100 GW of renewable energy capacity and 100 GW per hour of energy storage capacity each day, supported by budgetary allocation of Rs 1,650 crore over ten years to mobilise about Rs 3.12 lakh crore in investments. Interim milestones include increasing the renewable share to 50% of installed capacity by 2030. The policy also provides for Renewable Energy Industrial Zones, incentives for project development, and a dedicated tariff category enabling 100% renewable supply for commercial and industrial users.

US duty triggers sell-off in Indian solar stocks

Indian solar stocks declined on February 25, 2026 after the US Commerce Department imposed a preliminary countervailing duty (CVD) of 125.87% on solar cell and module imports from India. The duty, effective immediately, requires US importers to provide cash deposits and forms part of a wider investigation covering India, Indonesia, and Laos, with duty rates of 104.38% and 80.67% respectively. Waaree Energies Limited shares fell up to 14.6%, while Premier Energies Limited declined more than 12%, with other solar related stocks also trading lower. US trade data shows imports from the three countries were valued at about $4.5 billion last year, representing nearly two thirds of total US solar imports in 2025, while Indian exports to the US rose nearly nine fold to $793 million between 2022 and 2024. A final determination on the countervailing duties is scheduled for July 2026.

States advance unevenly in electricity transition: SET 2026 report

The Indian States’ Electricity Transition (SET) 2026 report finds uneven progress across India’s 21 largest states in decarbonisation, power system readiness, and market enablers. The third edition by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) and Ember covers the 2024–2025 financial year (FY) and evaluates states accounting for about 95% of annual power demand. Karnataka led in decarbonisation with a renewable share of about 37%, while Himachal Pradesh recorded the highest renewable share at roughly 65%. Delhi led in power system readiness with zero power shortage in FY2025 and 304 MW of distributed solar installed as of March 2025. Andhra Pradesh ranked first in market enablers, supported by an integrated clean energy policy and 1,440 MW of pumped hydro storage capacity under operation or development.

Enerparc launches power trading arm EPTPL in India

Enerparc has launched Enerparc Power Trading Private Limited (EPTPL) to expand into India’s power trading segment. The subsidiary will support industrial consumers in optimising power procurement and managing price volatility, while enabling generators to access market solutions. EPTPL will work with industrial and commercial consumers, renewable and conventional generators, open access buyers, and captive and group-captive projects. Enerparc, founded in Germany in 2008, has delivered more than 600 projects across over 27 countries with global installed capacity exceeding 4.8 GW. The company also draws on trading experience through its affiliate Sunnic Lighthouse GmbH, which reports annual turnover of about €2 billion.

Chhattisgarh plans 32,100 MW capacity addition with Rs 3.4 trillion investment

The Chhattisgarh government has outlined plans to add 32,100 MW of thermal, nuclear, solar and pumped storage capacity, supported by proposed investments of about Rs 3.4 trillion. The pipeline includes 12,100 MW of thermal, 4,200 MW of nuclear, 2,500 MW of solar and 13,300 MW of pumped storage projects, with work underway on new supercritical units in Korba and Marwa. The state’s total installed capacity stands at 30,671.7 MW, and it plans to install 2,000 MWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) by 2027–28, including a proposed 500 MWh facility in Korba. Transmission capacity has expanded to 137 substations, with transformer capacity rising to 27,883 MVA and 797 circuit kilometres of lines added. The state has also reported 132,000 registrations under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana.

GREW Solar secures 500 MW PV module supply order

GREW Solar has secured an order to supply 500 MW of high-efficiency solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to a leading power developer in India. The company will deliver its M10R and G12R module series for utility-scale projects across multiple locations. GREW Solar operates a 6.5 GW PV module manufacturing facility in Rajasthan and plans to expand to 11 GW, while developing an 8 GW solar PV cell manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier this month, it secured a repeat order of 550 MW from a leading Independent Power Producer (IPP). The company produces M10 tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) modules with power ratings of up to 590 Wp and is investing to meet Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) requirements expected from June this year.
