Power Ministry allows curtailed RE under T-GNA to charge co-located BESS
The Ministry of Power (MoP) has clarified that renewable energy (RE) projects awarded under applicable bidding guidelines can utilize power curtailed under Temporary General Network Access (T-GNA) for charging co-located Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), with the stored energy permitted to be sold to any entity. The clarification was issued through a letter dated August 27, 2026, following representations from renewable energy developers seeking an enabling framework to utilize RE generation curtailed due to T-GNA constraints. The measure is intended to facilitate optimum utilisation of RE generation. RE projects can use such curtailed power to charge an additional co-located BESS that is not covered under the existing Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) or Power Sale Agreement (PSA), without requiring a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the End Procurer(s) or Intermediary Procurer.
POWERGRID completes acquisition of Fatehgarh II Transmission
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has completed the acquisition of Fatehgarh II Transmission Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established to develop an interstate transmission system project in Rajasthan. POWERGRID had emerged as the successful bidder for the project under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism and received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on July 17, 2026. The project involves the installation and commissioning of two synchronous condenser (SynCon) units at the 765/400/220 kV Fatehgarh-II substation, along with associated bays, and will be developed on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. The acquisition was completed on August 28, 2026, with POWERGRID acquiring 100% shareholding in Fatehgarh II Transmission Limited for an aggregate consideration of approximately Rs 19.11 crore.
ACME Solar secures 300 MW LOA from SECI under FDRE-IX tender
ACME Solar Holdings Limited has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) for 300 MW of contracted capacity under the government agency’s Assured Peak Power Tender (FDRE-IX). The awarded capacity forms part of SECI’s larger 6,000 MWh (1,500 MW × 4 Hours) tender for interstate transmission system-connected renewable energy projects. The projects were selected through tariff-based competitive bidding, with ACME Solar securing a tariff of Rs 6.00 per kWh for assured peak power for the full tenure of the power purchase agreement. The scheduled commencement of supply date is 18 months from the signing of the PPA, followed by a tenure of 25 years.
KP Green Engineering bags Rs 258 crore in fresh orders across segments
KP Green Engineering Limited has secured fresh confirmed orders worth Rs 258.02 crore, inclusive of taxes, across multiple business segments, adding to its order pipeline for the current financial year. Separately, its affiliate KPI Green Energy Limited has reported further progress in the execution of its 2.57 GWp independent power producer (IPP) portfolio, with approximately 1.16 GWp already energized and about 1.41 GWp under active execution. The new orders secured by KP Green Engineering cover solar projects, crash barriers, pre-engineered buildings, transmission towers, poles, highmasts and isolators, while KPI Green Energy’s portfolio includes solar, hybrid, wind and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
Waaree bags two major solar-storage orders in two days
Waaree Energies Limited and its subsidiaries have secured two letters of award for large-scale renewable energy projects combining solar generation with energy storage. Waaree Forever Energies Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Waaree Energies Limited, has received a Letter of Award from SECI for developing a 700 MW solar and 700 MW/2,800 MWh energy storage solution (ESS) renewable energy power project in Solapur, Maharashtra. Separately, Waaree Renewable Technologies Limited has received a Letter of Award for EPC works for a 291 MWp ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) project integrated with a 280 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The two awards were received on August 27, 2026 and August 28, 2026, respectively.
Waaree to consolidate two Gujarat plants, expand US capacity to 4.8 GW
Waaree Energies Limited has approved a series of strategic measures covering its manufacturing footprint, US expansion and board composition at a board meeting held on August 29, 2026. The company will relocate plant and machinery from its Tumb and Nandigram facilities to its existing manufacturing facility at Chikhli, Gujarat, with the Tumb facility having a capacity of 1.0 GW and Nandigram having a capacity of 1.11 GW. The relocation is expected to be completed on or before December 31, 2026, with the consolidation intended to improve operational efficiency. Separately, Waaree Solar Americas Inc. will invest approximately US$37 million to revamp its Arizona manufacturing facility, increasing its capacity from 1 GW to 1.6 GW and taking Waaree Energies’ aggregate manufacturing capacity in the United States to 4.8 GW.
CERC notifies third DSM amendment with tighter norms for renewable energy sellers
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has notified the third amendment to the Deviation Settlement Mechanism (DSM) and Related Matters Regulations, 2024, introducing changes to deviation charges, energy storage systems and payment timelines. The amended regulations take effect from August 31, 2026, following a public consultation process that received written submissions from 41 stakeholders. Wind-Solar (WS) Sellers will be brought at par with General Sellers for the purpose of deviation charges for specified categories of projects, with the revised treatment applying to projects developed through the bidding route where the tendering or bid submission date is on or after January 1, 2027, and to other projects whose commercial operation date is on or after January 1, 2029. For Standalone Energy Storage Systems, infirm power injected from the date of first synchronization until successful completion of the trial run will be paid at the normal rate of deviation charges, subject to a ceiling of Rs. 2.00 per kWh.
ADB unveils $3 billion clean energy road map for Tripura
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has released the Tripura 6Ds Clean Energy Road Map and Implementation Plan 2025–2035, targeting at least 50% of Tripura’s total electricity supply from renewable energy sources by 2035. The roadmap is supported by an additional 1,000 MW of renewable energy generation capacity, including 200 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity by 2030, comprising 130 MW of rooftop installations and 70 MW of ground-mounted systems. A further 300 MW of solar PV and 400 MW of hydropower with pumped storage are planned by 2035. The total investment requirement under the roadmap is estimated at approximately $3 billion, equivalent to around ₹26,000 crore.
Tata Power crosses 7 GW operational capacity with new Tamil Nadu plant
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned a 100 MW group captive solar project at Kayathar in Tamil Nadu, taking its utility-scale portfolio to 12.3 GW and its operational capacity beyond the 7 GW milestone. Located in Vellalankotai and Nalandhula villages, the project marks the first deployment of Flexible Terrain Compatible Single Axis Tracker technology for a Tata project in India and comprises 261,660 Mono PERC bifacial solar modules. The plant is expected to generate 240.63 million units of clean electricity annually while offsetting approximately 1.5 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. With the commissioning, TPREL’s operational portfolio comprises more than 5.7 GW of solar energy and 1.3 GW of wind energy assets.
