PM Modi inaugurates Mahi Banswara nuclear power project in Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 2,800 MW Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP), being developed through a joint venture between NTPC Limited and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). The joint venture company, Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Limited, is implementing the project.

The plant, with an investment of Rs 420 billion, will be among India’s largest nuclear facilities and is intended to provide reliable base load power. NPCIL holds a 51 per cent stake in the venture, while NTPC owns the remaining 49 per cent. Both companies will contribute funding, technical support, and project management capabilities.

The nuclear project was launched along with other energy developments in Rajasthan, with a combined investment of more than Rs 510 billion. The first unit of the Mahi Banswara project is targeted for commissioning in 2031, with full completion expected by 2036.
