Patel Engineering L1 for Rs 1,593 crore Lower Arun hydro package

Patel Engineering Limited has been declared the lowest bidder (L1) for a contract valued at Rs 1,593.08 crore for the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydropower Project in Nepal. The contract has been issued by SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company (P) Limited, a subsidiary of SJVN.

According to a regulatory filing, the company received intimation of its L1 status on April 22, 2026. The award relates to Package 2 of the project and covers key civil and hydro-mechanical works.

The scope includes construction of Adit-5 and Adit-6 leading to the Head Race Tunnel, a 5.41 km Part Head Race Tunnel with a diameter of 10.5 metres, the Surge Shaft and gates, the Pressure Shaft along with the Butterfly Valve Chamber and Access Adit, as well as the Power House, Switchyard, Surface Pothead Yard, and Tail Race Channel. It also covers installation of steel liners for Pressure Shafts, Draft Tube Gates and hoists, along with associated road works and infrastructure.

The project is located near Tumlingtar in Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal, about 264 km from Siliguri, India, and is scheduled for completion within 54 months.

Ms. Kavita Shirvaikar, Managing Director of Patel Engineering Limited, said the L1 position marks a strong start to Q1 FY27 and reflects the company’s focus on large hydro projects. She added that Nepal’s hydroelectric potential offers long-term opportunities and that the Lower Arun project contributes to regional energy development. The company is currently executing the Arun-3 Hydropower Project, located around 35 km from the Lower Arun site.

Patel Engineering, established in 1949, has executed over 85 dams, 40 hydroelectric projects, and more than 300 km of tunnelling works across segments, including hydropower and irrigation.
