Empowertrans has commissioned Odisha’s first digital process bus-based 2×20 MVA, 132/33 KV grid substation at Agalpur, Rampur in Balangir district. The project was developed for Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (OPTCL).

According to the company, this is the first substation of its kind to be implemented by any State Transmission Utility in India.

The Agalpur substation uses process bus architecture, combining digital sensors located near equipment, fibre optic communication networks, and automated control systems. This design enables real-time monitoring, faster fault detection, and improved operational efficiency. It also contributes to lower carbon emissions compared to conventional substations.

Empowertrans stated that it has previously executed several first-of-its-kind projects in the power transmission sector. These include Odisha’s first QUAD Moose 400 KV double circuit transmission line at Kamalanga for GMR Group, monopole tower-based transmission lines with High Tension Low Sag conductors for projects in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh, and the country’s first cyclone-resistant transmission line in Wind Zone-6 at Puri for Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.
