NTPC, Opera Energy win NHPC’s 125 MW BESS auction in Kerala

NHPC Limited has concluded its auction for 125 MW/500 MWh of standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) to be connected to Kerala’s intrastate transmission network.
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) secured two projects totaling 80 MW/320 MWh. The first project, 40 MW/160 MWh at Pothencode substation, was awarded at a tariff of Rs 457,000 per MW per month. The second, 40 MW/160 MWh at Sreekantapuram substation, was awarded at Rs 434,000 per MW per month.
Opera Energy Private Limited won the third project of 15 MW/60 MWh at a tariff of Rs 438,000 per MW per month.
The projects are expected to support grid stability, peak demand management, and integration of renewable energy in Kerala’s power system.
