NTPC Limited, in consortium with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO), completed the acquisition of Sinnar Thermal Power Limited (STPL) on February 24, 2026. The transaction was executed under a Resolution Plan approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) following STPL’s Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
The acquisition had earlier been disclosed to stock exchanges on June 14, 2025, November 28, 2025, and January 9, 2026, and was formally concluded on Tuesday. STPL operates a coal-based thermal power plant at Sinnar, Nashik, Maharashtra, with an installed capacity of 1,350 MW across five units of 270 MW each.
Following completion, the total installed capacity of the NTPC Group has increased to 88,132 MW, while the group’s commercial capacity stands at 87,052 MW.
